DHS Analytics: Pilot Studies in Data Extraction and Analysis for DHSHistorical Research
This work investigates innovative ways data analytics can be applied to problems experienced by government public safety agencies. We've addressed a wide variety of pilot projects and have split off specific projects when we've found success. In the past we have investigated the use of language technology to find evidence of human trafficking; and to compile, track, and channel this evidence to the appropriate agencies. In another, we have applied text mining to harvest a comprehensive compilation of challenges to cybersecurity and their remedies. We are looking at following social media and treating it as an extensive distributed sensor network in order to identify anomalous events and track their evolution.
